It's good considering that the area has nothing even comparable to offer. I recently moved into an apartment up the street to save for a home and sadly driving to Clarendon for some good peruvian chicken is too painful with traffic. I'm not sure which nationality this place aims for since there is a various menu selections. I hate the location itself. I have no patience for the other ignorant customers. I had a lady that had also been waiting cut me off with her "un-uh me first" attitude when I came back in from my car to check on the status of my order. Regardless, if my order was ready ...my order was ready and I hate that I had to re-cut her off to ask the staff a question. I'm sure we ordered two totally different things. Most of the people in that small little space were like that with the same stupid mentality, so I continued to wait in my car. I guess the staff is so used to attitude that they ignore customers that have already been helped. I had genuine questions about other dishes, but brushed it off. I was beyond annoyed and ready for my food. The wait was decent considering they were having a rush hour rush. It was about 530-6. The chicken was surprisingly good. Not like my favorite place, but decent. Their "yellow" sauce is a watery combo of something not like any good rotisserie place. I was quite sad to have been teased like that. I ordered a steak fajita as backup up in case I didn't like the chicken. If you're going to offer fajitas, you have to offer sour cream, guacamole and fajita veggies, which they do not. So, I never touched it. My boyfriend picked through the meat and said it was OK. This place has so much potential and is missing the opportunity to really stand out. One young guy said that they might start doing empanadas based on my kind interest and suggestion.

So much food for a reasonable price. I love the chicken and shrimp fajita platter so that's my go-to order. I don't care for the location but I love the food.

The food here is absolutely FABULOUS! I really enjoy their rotisserie chicken, shrimp tacos, and quesadillas, but every dish on the menu is just delicious. The service is great as well, the place is kept clean and the staff is friendly. I suggest calling ahead because it's usually crowded, but the food is more than worth the wait!

Major fan! There are 2 locations within blocks from each other. I like this one better because parking is better. Call ahead AND CHECK YOUR BAG BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

*3.5 Stars* Sylvester's has been a neighborhood favorite for quite some time. The location on Saint Barnabus Road stays congested much like the little shopping center that it resides in. Their menu is extensive. I've had several items such as the pollo a la brasa, fajita de pollo con camarones, tacos de pescado, and quesadillas. Everything was good. You can convert your meal into a platter where you choose rice and black beans or rice and salad for $2.95, which is a great value when you consider the amount of food, taste, and overall cost. During peak hours, I place my order at least 20 minutes in advance, they provide the order number, but it's never ready when I arrive for pick up. The workers are nice enough, but I don't think they've developed an effective system for managing the demand during the peak times. The restaurant is really small, some choose to eat inside while everyone else is forming lines to place orders and pick up. Confusing! I'm planning to try their pupusas to compare to my Salvadorian spots. Check Sylvester's out if you're in the area, but again, place your order in advance or you may wait 30 minutes. +Tip: They play good music while you wait

I am not going to say anything that you have not already read about the food being good. I got a to go basket for lunch consisting of plantains, beans and rice, and of course their chicken. It was delicious. No compliant at all with service, price, or food. My only complaint and it is more of a warning that around lunch time parking is tight. It is located along with other business right on the corner and I am glad it is near the Suitland Federal Center so I can walk to it during lunch. A definite try if you are in the area.

Only spot in the suitland, district heights area that's not greasy and great flavor and sides as well

Delicious! Crowded tho so order ahead. Steak and shrimp quesadilla is my fave. I just talked myself into a call-in order.

I work in the area and when I tell you the food is good its good there food is always fresh and it stays crowded it opens at 11 and the line is out the door they have other locations that I have tried but the St.Barnabas Rd is the best

This place was recommended to me by a good friend. I was skeptical of the place bc I didn't see too many people inside. This place was a pleasant surprise. I notice that food was made to order and was made from scratch. I order the steak tacos. They were very good. I hope to try the chicken next time.

Very Very Very GOOD RED SNAPPER & the fajita MIxta was Great.. Also please do get the green sauce it's soooo yummy !!! I do recommend eating at this spot!

The best Latin food in the area !!! Food is always fresh and taste great !!! Taste like homemade cost like carryout. Service is always prompt and curteous.A hidden gem

I have this location on speed dial now! Absolutely one of the best carry out/fast food restaurants (and one of the healthiest options) in the area. Every thing is cooked to order except the Peruvian style char-broiled chicken, which is my go to. (Same as El Pollo Rico, Super Chicken, Marcela's and others) Fave dishes: 1/4 chicken + plantains & yuca Carnitas Entomotados + jalapeño Tip: Call ahead; wait time can easily surpass 10 minutes.

Great portions! Fresh salad and the chicken and shrimp fajitas is what I always get. I couldn't tell you about the carne but I see a lot of hood rats ordering it so I'll pass hahhah that's was wrong! I'm used to typical Peruvian sauces(yellow and green) but they add a little something different and it works perfectly! I always ask for more salad because these crazy mofos will fill your whole box up with rice if you let them. Starch portions should be the size of your fist not your face!! Portion Control Kids.... Portion control. I just got the "20% battery remaining" so I'm out kids!!!

Yes!!!! I got the red snapper..... let me just say... for a neighborhood chicken spot it was Damn good!!!! Fish was moist and crazy flavorful similar to Caribbean escoveitched snapper..... mouth watering as I type.....

This restaurant deserves all four stars! Here are a few things I learned and love about this spot. A. The chicken is good. B. price is good. C. This location unlike the other has tables to eat-in. D. You the liable to see the rainbow here, this place draws in people of all colors, sizes and occupations. E. On not days thanks to the business to the right I here you can often times get a free concert by boombox. lol F. This is the most important one....THE RUM HONEYBUN CAKE. It's off the chain. It's moist, rum packaged and just the right amount of sweetness. I understand it's also locally home-made. I will be back and sometimes just for this item.... Because it's that darn good.

Really tasty choice for lunch. The Peruvian chicken is one of the best I've had, and, considering how low the prices are, the steak in the quesadillas is surprisingly well-cooked. Portions are also generous!

A friend recommende this place and I was not dissapointed. A good neighbourhood eatery place indeed! You also get value for your food, the fajita chicken is my favorite.
(4)Grace D.
The food is really good! I usually only get the 1/4 chicken, salad and yucca. The sauces are good but they charge extra for a couple more. All I can say is go try it and gather your own opinion.....

I was in the neighborhood after picking my car up down the street and popped into this place for lunch based on other yelp reviews. The chicken was tasty, the yuca and beans were good, and the dipping sauces were a great touch. Very friendly place.

This is a good alternative to the Silver Hill Road (Suitland) location. It's a smaller establishment, but there's never a line -- and there's plenty of risk-free parking available. You really can't go wrong with this place. The chicken dishes are flavored to the bone. Literally. The Rotisserie Chicken Supper Sub is my go-to meal. Add fries and a drink, and you've got a good cheap meal with a (slight) chance for leftovers. Lately, the Tilapia Filet (fish tacos) have been my order. I've had the Chicken Fajita (Fajita de Pollo) once or twice and that's pretty good, too. The Pollo Entero (Whole Chicken) is a sure-fire favorite for large crowds -- with or without a side dish. If you're invited to a pot luck, bring this. **Caution: Do NOT park in the Dentist's office parking lot. They WILL tow your car...quick!

I just wanted to add in this is one of the best Chicken places I have had. In the whole area. No fat, not very greasy and they also serve WHOLE fish and have tacos. I stick with the chicken. This place is 5 mins from my house and I found it on yelp.
(5)Caridad R.
The service was very good, the guy who took my order was nice and helpful. The food was GREAT!! They give you lots of food, the combo's come with yummy black beans & rice. My whole family loved it! We highly recommended! The only down fall is the area where it's located is on the rough side. The place is tiny & only has 2 tables. It's better to take the food to go. The food is made to order we only waited about 20 mins.

Silvestre's aka (El Pollo Loco of the hood) never lets me down. Oh wait, there was this one time I ordered a tilapia... when I opened it is was a whole damn fish. My fault, not theirs but the flavor was still good. Some of my favorites are the tilapia sub (OMG)... I don't like the fact that they put a big ass single tomato wedge (yes, wedge. Not slice) on the sub but other than that, it's satisfying. The tacos/ steak or chicken (both if you about that life lol). Quesidillas (sp) are the best w/ the side salad, black beans and both hot and mild sauce. I did order a steak and cheese sub from there one time... wrong move. I'll stick w/ the chinese carryouts for that. I prefer the original Silver Hill Rd. over the St. Barnabas but its not that serious.

We called in our Friday lunch orders and they were ready when we got there about 20 minutes later. Back at my desk, I was surprised to find a whole GD snapper in my takeout box, toothy head, tail, and bones. Pretty good fish; deep-fried, but not oily, it's very tasty, a little dry and salty, but not fishy. The salad is the usual not-brown, but no-flavor affair, and without beans, the rice is uninteresting, so in the future I'll stick with rice and beans with plantains.

Don't judge the place by its location nor appearance from the outside, it's not in the best shopping center nor the prettiest location. In a town drenched in fast food joints and Chinese carry outs this place truly shines (I only wish more businesses like these sprung up around Oxon Hill). I love Peruvian Chicken, if I was on death row & I was asked what my last meal would be it would be Peruvian chicken, unfortunately this place is not in my top 5 but it definitely holds its own even though its rotisserie chicken. When I'm feeling lazy & don't feel like driving to Arlington for the real stuff this place hits the spot. Now that I've thrown that out there let me say that the half chicken with yuca and platano frito is the way to go, make sure you get the spicy yellow sauce! For less then 10 bucks you get a lot of food, definitely a good thing. I'm gonna start trying they're other foods I've always stuck to the chicken, I'm sure it has to be delicious. I come to this one instead of the one down the street because i rather my car not get towed by the pissed off dentist office next door.

This is probably by far the best chicken in DMV area!!! I've had famous Peruvian Chicken in DC, and I tell you, that place got nothing on this! I go here often as it's very close to my work. The taste is amazing, the sauces are great! WOW!!! I'm planning to try other stuff they serve, just never got around to it as I've been busy eating their chicken! People who work here are hard working and friendly. Never had issues with my order, you can call ahead to place your order if you want your food faster. Prices are very affordable. Highly, highly recommend!!

Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed Silvestre Chicken. I ordered the whole chicken with black beans and plantains. Everything was delicious, my picky four year old even approves. His only comment was that the black beans were a little spicy, his palate is still very sensitive, but to me the beans were as spot on as the chicken and the plantains. I will certainly eat here again. I will admit that the restaurant was small and there was not much seating available, with more of a carry-out setup but my food was fast, hot and good.
